Women’s Football Association and Slingers Football Club join for the Goal for Gold tournament
Female footballers will be in action over the next few weeks as the Women’s Football Association and Slingers Football Club join for the Goal for Gold tournament sponsored by ANSA McAL. Six women’s teams will join sixteen men’s teams for the competition.
ANSA McAL’s Darshanie Yusuf said she likes the uniqueness of the tournament. Dem Amstel will open the proceedings against Riddim Squad at 6 in the afternoon and Campton will take on Uitvlugt at 8 in the evening
The competition is a knockout one and starts on August 10th.
The GFF will open its 2013 season with 2 matches at the GCC ground Bourda. East Demerara Association will take on the Upper Demerara Association and the West Demerara Association will take on the G/Town association.
Before the games, the opening ceremony will feature speeches by various personalities.
In other news from the GFF; ts President Christopher Mathias has been named to FIFA’s development committee and will be welcomed in Zurich on Sept 3rd when the Committee holds its first meeting.
And asst general sec of the GFF George Rutherford has been replaced in the organization by Mabiola Howard. Rutherford has been around the football fraternity for a number of years serving in various capacities.
Guyanese Junior sprinting sensation Kadecia Baird will be a part of a 3 member squad to represent Guyana at the IAAF World championships in Russia. The other members of the squad are Olympians Winston George and Adam Harris. The championships run from Aug 10 to the 18th.
