Limacol Caribbean Premier League Opens With spectacular carnival atmosphere
Cricket: Guyana’s amazon warriors take on the Red Steel of Trinidad in their opening game of the Limacol Caribbean Premier league 20/20 tournament. Both Captains have expressed confidence in their team doing well, and though there were some early morning showers the Providence stadium is expected to be in tip top shape for the match. The tournament opened last evening in Barbados with a carnival style atmosphere showcasing how Caribbean people come out to play.
After the festivities of the opening ceremony it was down to business and the Barbados Tridents had to fight hard to defend the 169 runs they made to be the first team to win a match in the tournament, claiming a 17 run win over the St. Lucia Zouks.
Football: Members of the Integrity Commission set up by the GFF have been named at the Federation tries to bring its house in order after a turbulent 2 years.
David Hales of the Caricom Secretariat,GCB President Drubahadur and retired Supreme Court Justice Desmond Burch Smith are the three persons identified by the GFF. The commission, Capitol News understands, will be meeting shortly and its terms of reference will be disclosed by the GFF at a later date.
Hockey: Rain had the final say in the start of the Outdoor component of the Caribbean Kids Hockey Festival, hosted by telephone company GTT and the Guyana Men’s Hockey board.
The action however is expected to continue at the indoor venue; the National gymnasium. Trinidad will join Guyana and Barbados in the tournament which will last until Sunday.
