Venue for Guyana Geology and Mines Commission anniversary celebrations upset employees
Employees of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission are upset about the decision by the Natural Resources Ministry to shift their 34th anniversary celebrations to the compound of the GGMC, rather than at the Princess Hotel. It all started with this letter according to John Applewaithe who is a senior Geologist and workers rep on the GGMC Board.
According to Applewaithe the letter came from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The workers representative said that the employees of the GGMC are fed up with the situation, so they took time off to vent their frustration at what they see as too much interference into the running of the affairs of the GGMC by the Natural Resources Ministry.
The Ministry in a release on the issue said the event was not cancelled they only requested some activities be merged. No mention was made of the concerns expressed by the workers.
