GPL prepares to reshuffle its Board Members next month
As the Guyana Power and Light company prepares to reshuffle its Board Members next month, PNC member Cammie Ramsaroop will be the newest addition to the Board, according to Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds. The Prime Minister was at the time facing questions coming from the Parliament Committees on economic services and natural resources as it relates to the power company’s management. Parliamentary Economic Services Vice Chair, Carl Greenidge, told the Prime Minister that he wants to see the GPL Board depoliticised, since the members are being paid by taxpayers.
The Prime Minister when questioned about the high technical and commercial losses by GPL, he sought to justify the company’s loss to the fact that 1 in 6 persons do not pay for electricity.
It was also presented to the two Parliamentary Committees that the electricity company would need US $250M in order to operate more efficiently along with more experienced managers. Well, just about a dozen would do the trick, according to the Prime Minister.
