Guyana Power and Light company tries to justify prolonged power outages
The company’s Project Engineer Gayle Best said that the company was able to carry out extensive works at the Sophia Substation.
On Saturday the company via ads in the dailies said that the outages were expected to last from 8 a.m. to about 5 p.m., however in some instances power supply was restored till after 8.
According to the System Control Engineer Kempton France, the extensive power outages were unavoidable because it was necessary to allow for system upgrades that now allow for power outages in segments rather than what occurred on Sunday.
The company managers said that the Substation upgrade is a component of GPL’s Infrastructural Development Project which is being implemented in stages across Guyana.
The GPL said that it is part of the Company’s initiative to modernize its transmission and distribution networks nationwide.
