Family protest outside the GGMC over land dispute
The Majors told the media they decided to protest outside of the GGMC with the hope of having a cease work order granted.
The land is located in Sandhill Demerara River West Bank Vreed Den Rust. According to Desmond Major since his mother died in 1990 her children applied for the property; this was granted and the title issued. According to the aggrieved man despite having title for the land, which is over 800 acres a businessman Dr. Grantley Waldron is giving them a push around and no one in authority is looking into their concerns.
This Newscast understands that since 1993 a quarry license was issued to Roraima mining, a company Dr. Waldron is associated with.
His other siblings Daphne Sampson and Claudette Drayton spoke of the distress they are enduring. Sampson said even the remains of her mother and other siblings that were buried there were removed.
After the family began registering claims to the land Dr. Waldron decided to take the matter to the court for a decision.
He declined to comment on the allegations made by the Majors since he says he does not want to prejudice the outcome of the case.
