50-member delegation to represent Guyana at Carifesta 2013 in Suriname – 5th Jul 2013

timthumbMinister Of Culture Dr. Frank Anthony has announced that a 50-member delegation will be heading to Suriname for the staging of Carifesta 2013, scheduled for August 16th – 25th.

Carifesta is the Caribbean’s Festival of Creative Arts and was first held in Guyana in 1972. It was the brain child of former Guyanese Prime Minister Linden Forbes Burnham.

Dr. Anthony said Guyana is ready to play a major part in the festival.

Lennox Canterbury will be Guyana’s Festival Director for Carifesta 2013. He told reporters that unlike previous years, the organising team is proposing a new format for the opening ceremony.

Carifesta now falls under a regional initiative to develop cultural events. In 2008 a Task Force was set up to develop a comprehensive Regional Development Strategy Action Plan for the Cultural Industrieds in CARICOM.

The last Carifesta was held in Guyana. Over 20 million dollars have been budgeted for the event this year.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
