Mon Repos market stallholders to continue plying their trade – 3rd Jul 2013

shot0002Minister within the Ministry of Local Government Norman Whitaker is assuring Mon Repos market stallholders that they would be allowed to continue plying their trade.

Today the Minister and team met with the stallholders at the Lusignan community center to address the many concerns affecting them.

Stallholders spoke of the poor lighting in the market, the need for improvements in the sanitary block, and other facilities, security and the fact that there are not given permission by the council to improve the infrastructure.

The Minister and his team learnt that some stallholders are in the habit of vending on the roadside after selling or renting their stalls to other vendors.

The Minister is calling on each stallholder to take responsibility for their surrounding since in his view the condition under which the stallholders ply their trade is not ideal.

Today a market committee was elected which will look into the concerns of the vendors. That committee comprises persons from the RDC, NDC, stallholders and the Ministry of Local Government.
