On Thursday, the Chamber launched a competitiveness manifesto highlighting 20 barriers that are affecting companies.

Ensuring political and economic stability is what the Georgetown Chamber sees as the number one barrier affecting the business community, as political leaders find it hard to work together.

Urling said a second barrier affecting members, is the long overdue hosting of Local Government elections. The Chamber’s President hopes that after this year by enacting Local Government reform and administering elections, it will no longer be an issue.

The Georgetown Chamber continues to seek an improved tax system, since the body believes many businesses are being pressured under the current tax regime.

Urling said the manifesto by the Chamber, is the first phase in highlighting the barriers and the next step would be to look at specific recommendations for those barriers.
