Road project could affect East Coast Demerara vendors – 25th Jun 2013
Vendors of the Mon Repos market on the East Coast of Demerara are making it known that if there is a plan to have the market relocated due to the road expansion project in the area it will not be accepted.
A meeting was supposed to be held with the vendors and the market committee along with the council and Works Ministry officials on the proposed idea of relocation.
One vendor believes the use of the old market at Mon Repos and some repairs to the present market could be the answer to the situation facing everyone.
According to the Clerk of the Mon Repos market, the East Coast road project will see vendors on the roadside just opposite the market being removed.
He said the possibility of the present market being affected by the road works is still being discussed. Another meeting with the vendors is set for next Tuesday at the Neighborhood Democratic Council.
