Waramardong defeats Bartica to advance to next round of Digicel School’s Football Tourney – 24th Jun 2013

shot0006In what could be described as one of the best display so far in the Digicel School’s Football Championship Waramardong Secondary inflicted a thrilling 5-2 drubbing on Bartica Secondary as they were  crowned region 7 champions on Sunday.

Playing in not so favorable conditions at the Bartica School ground,  Waramardong started the ball rolling, scoring two goals and Bartica secondary, 1, from a penalty after a player was fouled in the box in the first half of the game.

Resuming play the Bartica Boys  looked more determined to represent  their home turf and  leveled the score –  two all- as they blasted another goal  some five minutes  into the game’s second half.  But Waramaradong Secondary turned up the heat and played  like warriors in the wet  and soggy conditions scoring  three more goals, ending any hope of  Bartica boy from advancing to the next round of the tournament.

Stating it was a good game, Coach of Bartica secondary school said the defeat was due to the indiscipline of some of his players.

The two teams were presented with trophies and medals, while bartica was given full sets of gears for finishing second. Waramardong now awaits the winners of the other regions for the regional playoffs. The tournament continues around the country with several games.

Guyana’s  Guinness in the Streets team hopes of capturing the second regional tournament ended in disappointment as the team returned home empty-handed as they ended the regional tournament on a disappointing note  over the weekend in St. Vincent and Grenadines . The  Back Circle team were only able to win one game.

The regional tournament was won by Trinidad and Tobago.

In cricket West Indies and Sri Lanka will square  off of in the first match of the  Jamaica leg of Celkon Mobile Cup Series, starting  Friday through Sunday, as well as next Tuesday at Sabina Park in Kingston.

The  West indies squad would be lead by captain Dwayne Bravo. Former New Zealand captain Jeff Crowe will be the Match referee for the three matches.
