GCCI wants proper security in the mining sector – 24th Jun 2013
The high price of gold is attracting miners and also lawlessness in the mining sector. The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry, President Clinton Urling wants the Guyana Police Force to do more when it comes to the protection of businesses with emphasis on the mining sector.
Urling said members of the business community have always shared concerns about the extra measures they would have to put in place to ensure their properties are secured. According to him the additional security does not come without a cost.
Last year declared gold production in the Mining Sector was over 438 thousand ounces making it the highest recorded in the history of the gold industry. During this year gold is budgeted to grow by 2.6 percent.
