Three workers crushed to death in Bosai accident – 20th Jun 2013
These are the pictures coming out of the bauxite mines at Linden. The bodies of three workers pulled from the vehicle which was crashed with them inside. Reports are that a heavy-duty truck used to transport bauxite from the mines to the processing facilities ran over the pickup vehicle the men were sitting in. The accident occurred in the mines at Kumaka.
The Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment has deployed a team to investigate the circumstances under which the men, all workers of the chinese company Bosai were killed. An investigative team includes officials of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the Ministry of Labour and other agencies. The investigators have been told to examine occupational health and safety concerns at the company’s operations.
The men killed in the accident have been identified as Michael Williams, Trenton Gardener and Kester Grant. Two other persons were critically injured and are receiving medical attention.
The Natural Resources Minister Robert Persaud has urged the team to conduct an expeditious and thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. The Police are also on the ground conducting their investigations.
