Running Braves Track Club to send 7-member team to compete in the T&T National Chanpionships – 18th Jun 2013
The Running Braves Track Club is preparing to send a 7-member team to Trinidad to compete over the weekend. But it’s not just an ordinary meet. This meet, the Trinidad and Tobago National Championships is one of few remaining qualifying meets for the World senior Athletics Championships. Stephan James, who is a 400-metre Bronze medalist at the South American games is one of the athletes hoping to qualify and he said he will be putting everything into it this weekend. He will be competing in both the 200 and 400.
James ran 47:01 to win the Hampton games. Another Athlete competing in the 400M is Nisa Allen and she hopes to really do a good time.
Running Braves’ coach, Sham Johnny said the weather has hampered some of his preparations, but he had to improvise to give his athletes a shot at the meet.
The athletes continue to train at the National Park circuit which deteriorates when it rains.
And the Guyana Tennis Association is catering for Adults getting into the game. The association’s Head Coach Shelly Ramdyhan said that it is in response to queries by persons wishing to play the game.
Ramdyhan said that the Junior players are getting more exposure.
The availability of facilities is also an issue for the GTA.
