Police likely to act following completion of the IDB probe – Minister of Home Affairs Rohee – 18th Jun 2013
But in a strange twist to the story as it unfolded, the head of the project implementation unit Khemraj Rai tendered his resignation citing health issues.
The Minister said the experience was most unfortunate and promised to work closer with the IDB and the Ministry of Finance to prevent any recurrence.
The Minister said in his view it would appear that a deal went sour after the upset contractor alleged that Rai withdrew millions of dollars deposited in a bank account in his name. He said he was bidding for contracts below the normal price.
Rohee said the Police could be called in to investigate the allegations after the Inter-American Development Bank completes its probe.
The IDB investigating team has wrapped up its probe after interviewing 10 persons from the implementation unit.
Rohee said the IDB team was in Guyana for close to a month and were given access to all the records and files. He said his Ministry was very transparent with the investigators.
