Medical Tourism seen as a potential revenue earner for the Caribbean – 12th Jun 2013
According to the Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization Beverly Nicholson-Dotty medical tourism has been identified as a new market in waiting to be explored in attracting visitors to the region.
But while Guyana may just be contemplating the future of any kind of tourism, other countries in the region have been cashing in.
Secretary-General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, Hugh Riley reminded that one of the aims of the Caribbean Tourism Organization is to position the Caribbean as the number choice destination for vacation.
He said now some member countries have recognized the needs to go beyond the traditional tourism products such as the sun, sea and sand.
Just recently the Jamaican Government announced that a 5-star 200-bed hospital will be constructed at an eventual cost of US$200 million.
