ILO Workshop to promote Green Economy and Green Jobs in Guyana – 11th Jun 2013
As Guyana strives to reduce its carbon emissions into the atmosphere, a green job workshop is in progress under the theme “Developing Policies and programmes to promote the Green Economy and Green Jobs in Guyana”.
International Labor Organization specialist Kelvin Sergeant said the workshop will focus on the benefits the green economy offers as an option for development.
The ILO Specialist believes the move towards a green economy has created international debate and negotiations on climate change and the economy.
The key note address by Guyana’s Natural Resources Minister during the opening of the workshop on Monday focused on encouraging participants to understand how the creation of green jobs play a role in protecting the environment.
The workshop is organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in response to the capacity building needs identified by the Labour Ministry and will end on Wednesday at the Regency Hotel.
Participants at the workshop included representatives from the Guyana Sugar Corporation, the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute, the National Insurance Scheme, and the Russian Embassy.
