Kitty Georgetown resident doused with acid after speaking out against operations at popular night spot – 3rd June 2013

Screen shot 2013-06-03 at 9.40.26 PMDays after Kitty resident Mala Persaud was on television speaking out about the traffic congestion and noise nuisance in her street the woman was doused with acid.

Persaud now feels that she has become a victim of her outspokenness.

Acid damaged her face and other parts of her body. The incident occurred early on Saturday. Persaud said she had just opened her shop when a man came in to make a purchase. She said she was in her car about to go to the market when a cup with the substance was dashed in her face.

Persaud was rushed to the hospital treated and sent away.  She immediately informed the Police about the incident. She said after the man threw the acid he made other threats. Persaud said she has now become fearful for her life and is hoping that the Police can get to the bottom of the story.

Persaud and other Station Street Kitty residents were up in arms against the lawlessness that continues to take place in the street.

Patrons of one of the popular nightspots in the area are in the habit of urinating and dumping garbage and bottles indiscriminately.

The owners of the nightspot from time to time will appeal to customers to be more considerate to her neighbours, but some pay little attention to them.
