AFC demands immediate dismissal of the Board of the Guyana Power & Light Company – 31st May 2013
The party in a strongly worded release to the press said the GPL Board has poorly administered the affairs of the company for the last decade with no let-up in black-outs and misery for the people in sight. The party is of the view that taxpayers should not foot the bill to pay for the financial waste at GPL.
But as the Guyana Power and Light continues to make noise over the G$5.2 billion slashed from their subvention, the Alliance For Change (AFC) is keeping a close watch on the situation with regards to the operations of the utility.
But GPL’s Chairman and CEO told the media recently that the monies cut from its subsidies will affect a number of its programmes.
The AFC aid it cannot allow the Government to neglect the needs of the working poor by continuing to divert billions to GPL because the Board of Directors are dedicated to a flawed system that pay its top executives salaries averaging G$1.6 million per month.
