Cricketer charged with murder, remanded to prison until June 7th – 30th May 2013

Screen shot 2013-05-30 at 8.43.46 PMYoung cricketer, Carlyle Barton was today arraigned in court the Georgetown Magistrates Court to answer the charge of murder.

The 23-year-old accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before principal magistrate, Sueanna Lovell.

According to the Police report the suspect shot and killed, Shawn Nelson, a close family friend on May 27th.

The incident occurred in Orange Walk early Sunday morning. The bullet hit Nelson to the head. According to reports the suspect then calmly took his time, boarded his car and drove away.

Nelson was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed Monday morning.

Eyewitnesses told this Newscast that the suspect appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol.

Police Prosecutor Mangru told the court that Police investigations are ongoing. Barton was remanded to prison until June 7th for a report on the case.

Attorney-at-Law, Mark Waldron is representing the young man.
