Chris-Gayle-001The West Indies players continue to prepare for the champions Trophy. Captain Dwayne Bravo says the WI team sees the trophy as an important event and they are looking forward to the challenge.

The champions trophy starts in England in just about a week’s time. WI is drawn with South Africa, India and Pakistan. West Indies’ only triumph came in 2004 under Brian Lara. Ramnaresh Sarwan was named player of the series in 2004 and said he is looking forward to a good tournament this year.

The Indoor hockey season started over the weekend with the Bryden’s Classic and according to President of the Guyana men’s Hockey Board, Philip Fernandes the excitement is already there. Fernandes said even though the teams are showing the effects of the off season, he expects they will improve as the tournament goes on. There are several prizes at stake, according to Fernandes.

Following the successful hosting of the Annual Independence Table tennis Championships held over the past weekend,  President of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe said, they are making good progress. He said the young players are making big strides.

Munroe said the next few months will be a hectic time for the players, especially the seniors, since the Caribbean championships will be held in Guyana in August.
