Organisation of Islamic Cooperation looks to increase cooperation with Guyana on a range of issues – 29th May 2013

Islamic Conference CharterGuyana is preparing to ratify the amended Organization of the Islamic Conference Charter, a document which promotes religious freedom, peace and goodwill.

This was revealed by President Donald Ramotar as he hosted the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the Presidential Complex earlier today.

The President commended the SG for his stewardship of the organisation and in the promotion of intercultural relations, women empowerment, peace and stability.

During his trip, he also paid courtesy calls on Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, and the Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.

The Secretary General was presented with a Plaque in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Organisation during his tenure.

He said this is the first time that a Secretary General from the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation has visited Guyana.

The Secretary General also met representatives of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana and facilitated an interactive session with the Interfaith Community.
