Shocking Surveillance video unveils the way in which a Lodge resident was gunned down in Orange Walk – 28th May 2013
The incident occurred in Orange Walk early Sunday morning and the video clearly shows the victim walking along Orange walk when his assailant whipped out a gun and fired a shot. The bullet hit Nelson to the head, the suspect then calmly took his time, boarded his car and drove away. He later turned himself into the Police.
After the suspect fled the scene, persons rushed to the man’s assistance and took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed yesterday.
While the motive remains unclear, eyewitnesses told this Newscast that the suspect appears to have been under the influence of alcohol.
At Nelson’s home in Lodge Housing Scheme, his relatives were baffled over the entire ordeal. They told reporters that the suspect was a very close friend of the family.
The video footage recovered should offer the Police a better chance to make their case, unlike other instances where surveillance cameras installed for crime fighting purposes, failed to clearly identify suspects committing crimes. To date, the Police are still to get any video footage that can assist them in the murder of Police Corporal, Romein Cleto.
The gun used in the Orange Walk shooting was said to be an illegal firearm that committed the act. The suspect who is said to be a cricketer with the Demerara Cricket Club is expected to appear in court later this week.
