AFC once again lashes out at the Government over the operations of the sugar industry – 28th May 2013
The struggles of the Sugar Industry are well documented according to AFC Chairman, Khemraj Ramjattan and the new Skeldon Sugar Factory, which was touted as a key part of the turnaround plan, has also failed to live up to its full potential so far.
Ramjattan feels those who imposed Skeldon at such a high cost with little or no return are unpatriotic and disloyal to this nation.
Ramjattan was speaking at the AFC’s press conference last week. He believes that the focus was more on personal wealth rather than the good of the nation.
The AFC’s Chairman is calling for the launch of a Commission of Inquiry into the operations of GUYSUCO and the immediate appointment of a new Board.
Several political leaders are of the view that poor leadership and management of the industry is contributing to the current plight of the sugar industry.
Since the European Union’s 36% price cut, the sugar industry has found it difficult to maintain, both its local and international markets.
