Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport prepares for the annual Independence Day celebrations – 24th May 2013
According to the Culture Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, all systems are set and ready to go as Guyana prepares to observe its 47th independence anniversary.
Dr. Anthony spoke about some of the highlights for Saturday night.
The Minister said that the Ministry added that there have been some changes to the traditional programme.
He said while Guyana continues to grow and develop as an independent state, it is critical to look back and appreciate all the struggles many of the nation’s forefathers had to go through so that Guyana can assert itself as an independent land.
It was on the night of May 26, 1966 that the Union Jack was lowered and the Golden Arrowhead was raised symbolising the birth of a new nation.
