Guinness Greatness Of The Streets Championships to get underway – 23rd May 2013

shot0001It will be a ding-down battle between some eight teams in the Guinness Greatness Of The Streets National Championships starting on Friday. The prize, well the winner in addition to being 400 thousand dollars richer, will go on to represent Guyana at the regional championships billed for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in June. The action is at the Bank DIH parking lot and the first and second rounds are expected to be completed on Friday. The action heats up on Saturday with the third round and the semi-final and the Final will take place on Monday. The matches start at 7:30 in the evening.

And the GFA players cup continued last evening at the GFC  ground with a 7-2 demolition of Police by the GFC, while Camptown routed Houston Stars 5-2  the action continues Friday evening with Pele taking on GDF and Alpha clash with Riddim squad.

In cycling, the recent stint by team Coco’s riders in Colombia is seen as part of their overall training in preparation for the annual 5-stage road race set for later this year. Two of the riders said the training in Colombia was very good and they are looking forward to going back to working in those conditions. One of them, Christopher Holder is coming back from a 3-year layoff and said the one month stint in Colombia has done him well.

And 5 Powerlifters from Berbice will be looking to lift their way to glory in Orlando, Florida in just over six weeks time. The Five lifters have been selected to compete at the 14th Pan American Powerlifting championships. They will compete in the sub junior and Junior categories as well as the open category.  Among the lifters are the up and coming Vijay Rahim, Anis Ade–Thomas and Gumendra Shewdass. The team will be looking to raise some 4 million Guyana Dollars to enable them to compete and are calling on Corporate Guyana to support them even as they step up their own fundraising efforts.
