Man charged with stabbing ex-wife to death in a Georgetown Hotel – 17th May 2013
The man appeared before Principal Magistrate Sueanna Lovell in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The mother of three was stabbed multiple times about the body between the 11th and 12th of May.
Staff members at the hotel who made the discovery immediately summoned the Police and rushed the woman to the hospital where she succumbed. According to reports the woman and the man checked into the hotel last Saturday.
After committing the act the suspect managed to evade law enforcement officers in the city but the Police at Supenaam, Essequibo Coast on Wednesday, captured him.
The dead woman’s mother speaking to this Newscast on Monday from her Vryheid’s Lust East Coast Demerara home said her daughter left home early Saturday afternoon to reach her ex-husband at Demico near the stabroek market to collect money for her children.
The woman said she became worried after he daughter failed to show up later in the night. She said her daughter was never in the habit of sleeping out so she became worried after calling her cellphone and getting no answer.
The woman told this Newscast that the man was very abusive to her daughter during their 13-year relationship and had always threatened to take her life. She said the couple separated for some time but the man would normally maintain his three children.
Balgobin, of 316 Independence Boulevard, who was unrepresented by an attorney, told the court that he was never charged with any previous offences. Balgobin was remanded to prison until May 21st.
