Vendors protest Town Clerk’s decision to remove them from the streets – 2nd May 2013

soobaVendors around the city are calling for the removal of the Town Clerk who according to them is not looking out for the best interests of the city.

Today the vendors descended on the office of the Minister of Local Government in protest over an alleged decision by the Town Clerk to move them off the streets.

According to the vendors such a move will take away their livelihoods. But while vending on the city streets is illegal, the Council has been allowing persons to vend, but this is providing that they do so in an orderly manner and keep their surroundings clean.

City Mayor Hamilton Green today told members of the media that he was seeking an audience with the Minister for sometime on the issue.

The vendors vowed to continue the struggle until the matter is resolved. This Newscast understands that the decision of the Town Clerk is in keeping with a high court ruling to clear persons who are encroaching on the pavement.
