This call came from Head of the Civil Defence Commission retired Colonel Chabilal Ramsarup.  He was at the time addressing participants at a workshop to present the National Early Warning Systems Communication Plan.

The early warning system is expected to provide information that is accurate and meaningful about possible disasters and should help stakeholders to prepare for such occurrences  in a timely manner. The presentation was done by Major Kester Craig and he outlined all the areas that must be addressed to ensure the country is prepared in the event of disaster of any kind. Major Craig also listed the various industries that should be on board to ensure total stakeholder participation. But he was quick to point out that all of the preparations could be meaningless if no funds are provided.

The warning system will have some more technical inputs from today’s seminar, as well as two others before the end of the year. It will then be submitted to Cabinet for Adoption in 2013.
