AFC will continue to advocate for the regularization of contract employees within public service – 30th Apr 2013
The party is also recommending that the Public Service Commission be enhanced and the freeze on employment to the civil service be lifted.
Speaking at the party’s post budget debate press conference, Ramjattan said even though, in principle, that party has issues with the way the Government was creating a parallel public service, they did not withdraw budgetary support to those contracted employees.
Ramjattan said the AFC was given the assurance that the issue of contract workers will be discussed at the tripartite level early July, when the two main political parties will be meeting with President Ramotar to discuss the 2014 budget.
Ramjattan said even though the AFC was not pleased with some of the justifications given regarding contract employee, the party supported that line item in good faith.
Not only was the AFC raising concerns over the contract workers, earlier APNU Spokesman on Finance Carl Greenidge stated that the main opposition party wanted the Government to cease employing contract workers until an agreement could be reached on the professionalisation of the public service.
