Private Sector Commission calls on politicians to pull together – 25th Apr 2013
The Private Sector Commission on Thursday afternoon weighed in again on the Budget cuts affected by the parliamentary opposition. At a press conference at the Georgetown Club, Chairman Ron Webster said that over the past few weeks, the Commission has met with not only President Ramotar, but the opposition. Webster said those meetings have thrown up a series of interesting and enlightening results.
He said one of the concerns of the PSC was Guyana’s dependence on commodity priced items. The falling prices for Gold on the world market was used as an example of what could happen if there is a dramatic fall in prices.
Webster said given the fragile situation with the economic situation, it is imperative that the political leaders take stock and work in the best interests of Guyana.
At the Press conference too, were Chairman of the Trade and Investment Sub-Committee of the PSC, Ramesh Dookhoo, Finance Director Ramesh Persaud and Chairman of the Communication and Environmental Committee, Kit Nascimento, who chaired the press conference.
They all spoke to the issue of investor confidence and believe that the cuts could send the wrong message to potential investors.
