rice farmers protestRice farmers from the Essequibo Coast, today took their concerns in front of Parliament as they continued to protest against what they called Government’s failure to address their concerns.

Among their worries, are the rapid ‘bug’ infestation of their crop, poor paddy pricing and post dated cheques issued by some millers.

Some members of the opposition including David Granger and AFC’s Moses Nagamootoo, spoke to the protesters.

Both men said that Government needs to be more proactive in addressing their concerns.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy said that he has been monitoring the situation. He said that he will not be drawn into a political row over the matter.

However, the rice farmers are insisting that the protest will continue if their concerns are not addressed.
