GPL continues to cry foul over the 5 billion dollars that was cut from its budget – 23rd Apr 2013

gpl2Chairman of the Guyana Power and Light Company, Winston Brassington said, that taxpayers are not paying twice for power if the Government continues to subsidise the utility.

He said what is happening, is that all these funds injected into GPL are coming through loan resources from external third parties outside of Guyana and have to be repaid by GPL from revenue collection.

The company is crying foul over the 5 billion dollars that was cut from its budget by Parliament. The Opposition is calling for proper management of the utility company, but the CEO is saying, that the company is doing well with its limited resources. He claims that the opposition’s action to cut the budget of GPL was done out of total ignorance and mis-understanding on their part.

GPL’s CEO, Bharrat Dindyal said GPL has made major investments in infrastructure development with seven new substations under construction with some being as much as 85 percent complete.
