Ruling PPP/C expresses frustration over Budget Cuts – 19th Apr 2013

parliamentThe Government is crying foul over cuts to the allocations for the utility company, GPL, and state owned NCN and GINA.

Already, the Government is saying that the just over 5 billion dollar cut from GPL could result in increases in electricity tariffs. What the Government is not saying, is that taxpayers are already paying for the subsidies given to GPL.

At a press briefing today Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh said that it is clear that the AFC and APNU have no interest and commitment to national development.

Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall described the cuts as merciless as he continues to stick to his position that the chief justice’s ruling is still clear that the Parliament can approve or disapprove the budget.

According to the opposition MP’s, Parliament has the power to amend the estimates of the budget.

There have been mounting calls for proper management of the utility which has been complaining about technical and commercial losses as well as rising fuel costs.
