Protests against radio licences issued by former President Jagdeo, continue outside OP – 15th Apr 2013

broadcast licenseLegal action will be taken against the state over the issuance of radio licences by former President Bharrat Jadgeo.

Members of the Private Media Practitioners Association called the move illegal, unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The Association is calling on President Donald Ramotar to suspend the licenses issued by President Jadgeo and for a level playing field.

Today, the Association and its members held a picketing exercise outside of the Office of the President and the Police were having none of it and were demanding that the protesters move, since the area is restricted.

The Police then brought in reinforcements and barriers, but the association and members held their ground. Orders were then given by a senior Policeman to the officer to ensure that the protesters moved.

The Police stood at bay as the protest continued for several minutes before the protestors decided to move.
