BREAKING NEWS: Airplane crashes shortly after take off from Ogle Airport – 13th Apr 2013
A Light Aircraft on a surveying mission to the Amaila Falls Hydropower project, crashed into a small cottage just after taking off from the Ogle Municipal Airport, outside Georgetown this afternoon, around 3 o’clock. Both foreign pilots on the aircraft were killed, no one on the ground was killed or injured. A 67-year-old woman, the lone occupant of the house into which the plane crashed, escaped. The small cottage was completely destroyed by the crash and fire and nearby houses damaged.
Transport Minister, Robeson Benn said, that the aircraft was on its second mission for the day into the interior site. The US registered aircraft nose dived into the populated area about eight miles from the country’s capital, Georgetown, creating panic in the village.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the accident.
