Former Principal Officer of the Guyana Prison Service Suzie Wong-Yip issued letter of dismissal – 10th Apr 2013
Wong-Yip said she was forced to resign last December, after her rights were violated by the prison authorities, but her resignation was never accepted. She said this is frustrating and she is now looking at her options to secure justice.
The woman said after working in the prison service for five years she was given a raw deal.
She said it all started in July last year, when she was suspended for alleged misconduct. According to the former Prison, Officer after she returned to work things did not go well.
During her tenure, Wong-Yip who is an electrician by trade, said she taught inmates for the past two years, she taught Basic Electrical Installation and trained approximately 50 inmates of whom 25 successfully completed the training.
She said she was transferred to Timeheri and was forced to work 14 hours per day without proper food. Yip said what was more troubling, is that she was not given a notice of transfer.
