Fire guts Duncan Street business – 8th Apr 2013

fire guts businessBusinessman Mohammed Bacchus and his family are beginning to feel that they are  targeted by arsonists. This was after the third building owned by the family, was gutted by fire.

It happened around 7 on Sunday morning in Duncan Street Campbellville. Indira Rahaman, wife of the businessman expressed disappointment at the Police, who she feels have not been taking their complaints seriously. The woman was outraged after watching a building she called home going up in flames. The building was stocked with groceries, electrical items and cold storage systems.

A Police source said that is far from the truth and they are investigating the allegations.

Just last year the business place of G Bacchus on Hadfield Street, was gutted by a fire, which the family feels, was set by an arsonist. Rahaman said back in January, an attempt was made to burn the building opposite to the one that was gutted.

Neighbours blamed the Fire Service for arriving late and not being fully prepared on arrival. However, Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle said that the building was laden with flammable items which also made it difficult for firefighters.

The Police and Guyana Fire Service are continuing their investigation.
