Passenger Flights from the Caribbean to begin landing at the Ogle Airport – 28th Mar 2013
The many hours of travel and check-in times could soon be reduced for Guyanese and other travelers to the Caribbean, with the certification of the Ogle Airport as a Regional Airport. This means, that small commercial aircraft like those used by Liat, can touch down there. The certification of the Ogle Airport comes at a time when there is increasing pressure within the aviation industry to improve standards and lower costs. President Donald Ramotar, speaking at the certification ceremony at Ogle on Tuesday, pointed to the venture as one that stood out for its private/public collaboration.
The need for such partnerships are even more critical at this time in Guyana’s development, according to Head of the Private Sector Commission, Ron Webster. His sentiments were also echoed by Minister of Transport, Robeson Benn.
Chairman of the Ogle Airport Inc., Michael Correia said, the certification was long in coming and will have huge benefits for all travelers.
Correia paid tribute to the management team of the Group, saying, that because of their skill, they were able to cut back significantly on the investment capital to develop the Airport.
