AFC calls for the revocation of radio and TV licences issued by Former President Bharrat Jagdeo – 22nd Mar 2013

licences protestLeader of the Alliance for Change, Khemraj Ramjattan, is calling for the revocation of the radio and TV licences issued by then President, Jagdeo in 2011.

Ramjattan was on the picket line today in front of the Kaieteur News, as he joined private media practitioners.

He feels the Broadcasting Authority should be given a clean slate to work with. But Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon, is defending his Government’s decision. The AFC leader believes such an approach will spell problems.

The protest comes after the shocking revelations in the National Assembly about who got what and their association with the ruling party.

Glen Lall, publisher of the Kaieteur News, who has organized the protest, said he is prepared for the long haul and he is getting the support from civil society.

Some practitioners who criticize this Government and had applied, were told that they have to reapply for their licenses.

The Private Media Practitioners Association is calling for a reversal of what they deem as lawlessness on the part of the Government with the distribution of radio and television licences.
