Guyana Fire Service renders assistance to Theatre Guild clean up exercise after massive flood – 14th Mar 2013
The Guyana Fire Service was called in to lend a helping hand as the mopping up exercise continued after a massive flood in the Kingston area on Monday. Over at the Theatre Guild, over six inches of water settled in the building due to the flood, but with help from two Fire Tenders, the water was pumped from the building.
Manager of the Theater Guild, Jennifer Thomas, said an estimate of the damage would be known after the mopping up process is completed.
The flood also caused the doors of the Tender Heart Day Care and Play Group to remain shut for two days, much to the inconvenience of the parents, whose children attend that school, but the Management and teachers are working around the clock to have the school up and running by Friday.
To date, no health care personnel from the Ministry of Health visited the school, according to the teachers, but they are hoping for some form of compensation.
Several business and homes in the Kingston and other areas were affected by flood waters after the door of one of the main kokers broke, during the high tide on Monday, causing massive flooding. The flood water left extensive damage especially in the Kingston area.
