Women’s Rights groups pushes for the speedy implementation of the Sexual Offences Act – 8th Mar 2013
Today, Red Thread and Help and Shelter and other groups used the observance of International Women’s Day to protest critical importance of the act.
The two organizations are of the opinion that the Government needs to gets serious with the implementation of the Act, since women and children are suffering.
And the non-implementation is creating a setback in the judicial system, since many of the cases have gone on for years without the trials being completed according to the NGOs.
The women’s rights groups said one of the critical areas of the Act is for a speedy trial of the suspects.
And some women are of the view that nothing meaningful is being done to offer them any protection.
For years Red Thread has led the struggle on women’s rights issues.
