Carnegie School of Home Economics celebrates 80 years of service – 8th Mar 2013

Carnigie-schoolThe Carnegie School of Home Economics continues to play a critical role in the development of young women and men in culinary Arts, Hospitality and Human Development.

This is the view of Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, as she delivered the feature address at the 80th anniversary celebrations on Thursday evening at Herdmanston Lodge.

The Minister said after years of serving Guyana’s youth, it was time that the school expand its programmes offered.

The Minister’s view was shared by past Principal and Board Member Magda Pollard, who also received a special award for her contribution to the institution.

Pollard said an effort is being made to have a Science department.

The annual report of the school was presented by Chairman John Seeram, who said in recent years, the school has been facing numerous challenges against the background of a changing environment.

He said as part of the school’s developmental efforts, the Board is now looking to ensure that quality of the programmes being offered reaches the demand.

The theme of the 80th anniversary celebrations is “Positive Attitude, Knowledge and Skills – The Springboard for Success”.
