Shot fired, mace sprayed, as angry patrons sought refund at Destra show – 4th Mar 2013

destra showAngry patrons sprayed mace and pepper spray as they demanded refunds when the highly anticipated Destra show last night at the GTI ground in Berbice, was halted following a fall out between the promoters and sound system owners.

The police had to discharge a warning shot to disperse the crowd, who at that point, became very unruly.

When the show was about to start, the soundman demanded that the promoters come up with the cash that is owed to him. At this point, Rick Ramotar, was on stage and he left in a hurry after he learnt of the problems. Soca Queen, Destra, and Jamaican diva, Cecile, were all in the arena waiting to perform.

The Police, using their powers, ordered the owner of the sound system to shut down the music. This newscast understands, that the soundman was owed over $500,000 for stage lighting and the music system. He told the promoter that he made all efforts to have the money paid over by the events organizer, who is a popular basketball promoter, but the money was never paid.

It is unclear if patrons will be given a refund at this stage.
