Guyanese cricket commentator, Joseph Red’s Perreira, awarded the St. Lucia Medal of Merit – 28th Feb 2013

sportGuyana’s Christopher Barnwell has been called up to the WI squad for the upcoming T/20 series against the visiting Zimbabweans. The 2-match series starts this Saturday in Antigua and regular Captain, Darren Sammy, is back at the helm after being rested for the 3-match one day series.

Barnwell had a brilliant series in the just concluded Caribbean T/20 series and was delighted with his call up. He said, perseverance always pays off.

And Guyana continues to languish towards the bottom of the points table in the regional Super 50 limited-over championships. Their latest loss to Barbados followed similar defeats at the Hands of the LI; Three more matches remain for the Guyanese, who are without several of their stars who are on West Indies duties.

With the failure of Guyana’s Clive Lloyd to get a seconder for his nomination, the WICB presidential race is now a two-way fight between the incumbent Dr. Julian Hunte, and Whycliffe Cameron, who is Vice-President of the WICB. According to the amended rules of the WICB, any nomination must get the agreement of at least 2 Boards to go through .The Elections are due late in March at the Annual General Meeting of the WICB.

And noted Guyanese cricket commentator and sports Administrator, Joseph Red’s Perreira has been recognised by the St. Lucian Government for his outstanding contribution to sport and Administration on the Caribbean Island. Perreira was last Friday awarded the St. Lucia Medal of Merit. The Guyana cricket board has sent a message of congratulations to Perreira on this achievement, saying they share the pride Red’s obviously feels and wishes him well in his continuing quest to enhance sport in this part of the world.

And semi- final action in the West side; Stag beer Mashramani Championship Cup West side football continues tomorrow at the Den Amstel ground with the hos,t Den Amstel taking on Seawall United FC, in the First game starting at 7 in the evening. The feature game brings together Uitvlugt FC and Slingerz. Anticipation is high and the organisers expect a huge turnout for the match.
