indigenousThe vexing issue of Amerindian Land Rights is one of the many concerns highlighted in the 2012 Indigenous People’s Commission Report.

On Wednesday, the Commission handed over the report to Speaker of the National Assembly, Rapheal Trotman.

The Chairperson of the Commission said while the Commissioners sought to report on the successes of Guyana’s Indigenous People, there were also many challenges that still exist within the Amerindian villages.

Trotman, in thanking the Commissioners for their timely submission, said he was pleased to see the extent of the work carried out, while at the same time, Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds explained, that the Government would be taking the recommendations put forward in the report seriously.

Also present at the simple handing over ceremony were several Government Ministers, including Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai.
