Guyana moves closer to having plans in place for the agri sector in the event of a natural disaster – 27th Feb 2013
Guyana is moving closer to having a plan in place for the management of its agriculture sector in the event of disasters such as floods or drought. The plan has been long in the making and is getting substantial assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organisation. At a forum to discuss the plan with those in the agri sector, FAO’s country Representative, Dr. Lystra Fletcher-Paul said, that the report is still being finalized but once it is completed, it must not find its way on a shelf to gather dust.
Guyana’s Minister of Agriculture agreed with Dr. Fletcher-Paul that implementation is important and he said, the plan is being developed now in order to boost our level of preparedness.
More consultations with stakeholders are expected before a final document is presented to the .
