New book offers new insights into the Berbice Uprising two and a half centuries ago – 22nd Feb 2013
Students of History will have another source of information on events that shape the Caribbean and Guyana in Particular, thanks to a publication by AJ Mc R Cameron. The text chronicles the 1763 Berbice slave uprising and according to the man who reviewed it, Professor, Emeritus Dr Alvin Thompson students and teachers of Caribbean history will be well served in reading it.
The author says the book has taken 2 and a half decades to finally be printed and came as a result of the move by Caribbean Governments to replace the British exams with the CXC.
The Caribbean Press published the text and credit was given to Professor David Dabydeen and Dr. Ian Mc Donald for their efforts in this regard. The Minister of Culture Dr. Frank Anthony said he had the opportunity to read the text and is impressed.
