Gouvia also dismissed claims that the airline’s planned pull out was due to the TSA’s searching of former President Bharrat Jagdeo’s luggage and also drug busts involving passengers using the airline, by the US authorities.
Delta had confirmed last week that within the next three months, it will stop flying to Guyana. Following the announcement, the Tourism Minister and President Donald Ramotar also expressed optimism that the airline would maintain the Guyana route.
But amidst all that optimism, President Ramotar has still been in discussion with Suriname Airways at the just concluded CARICOM summit in Haiti, about flying on the Georgetown /JFK route. Also just last week officials from Jet Blue were in Guyana conducting some meetings with airline stakeholders.
