300 Kilos of Cocaine found in a container of lumber at a Sawmill in Soesdyke – 19th Feb 2013
One of the country’s largest ever Drug Busts is unraveling at the moment. CANU and the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) have found over 300 kilos of cocaine at a Sawmill in Soesdyke, about three miles from Guyana’s International Airport.
Four persons are in custody. The Drugs were found in a container of lumber that was being prepared to be shipped to Holland. The Sawmill is reportedly owned by individuals from Holland but there are Guyanese Directors on the board.
Last week, CANU also found a large shipment of cocaine stashed in a house in Ogle. The investigators are still pursuing the mastermind behind that haul.
The largest ever Drug haul was when CANU unearthed, with the help of the DEA, hundreds of kilos on a ship called the Danielsen that was docked at a Georgetown pier several years ago.
